We are delighted to be able to present this edition of selected papers from the conference 4 or more languages for all: Language policy challenges of the future held on the Faroe Islands in August 2011. A major purpose of the conference was to provide an interdisciplinary forum by bringing together scholars and practitioners from such diverse disciplines as history, law, linguistics, literature studies, political science, sociolinguistics, and sociology to compare, highlight, and share researched-based knowledge on language policy, language rights, and multilingualism in the Nordic countries.
