Helskog, Knut (ed.): Theoretical Perspectives in Rock Art
Carved and painted figures on rock surfaces as a form of human expression, past and present, are found in most regions of the world. The theoretical dialogue in rock art research is global, multifaceted, increasingly intense and rewarding. In this volume, from the second Alta Conference on Rock Art, in Alta, Norway, scholars present their views on theory, and on the history of theory. The volume also focuses on ritual and cultural beliefs, ritual and cultural landscapes, and on issues of gender, to further increase our understanding of what these depictions are about.
