Contexts of Baroque explores the exchanges between sculpture, painting, and architecture of the period with its literature. Continuity and change mark this interpenetration process to the highest degree. Continuity is seen both in the reappearence of motifs and themes and in the remarkable persistence of aesthetic terminology from the Renaissance to the last stages of Baroque. Similarly, change defined as transformation and motion speaks in Baroque artefacts and written compositions, testifying to its delight in metamorphosed forms and desire for the marvellous and the novel.
