On January 12th 2005, Lars Hellan, one of the pioneers of generative linguistics in Norway, turned 60. His contribution to the field of linguistics is unusually rich and varied, comprising often groundbreaking work on syntax, semantics, the lexicon, the syntax-semantics interface, noun phrase structure, anaphora, computational linguistics, comparative Scandinavian linguistics, African linguistics, Principles and Parameters Theory, Montague Grammar, Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar, to mention just some of the areas to which he has made a contribution.The articles published here are written by some of the most internationally well-known scholars active in linguistics today.
